Dere sone knowe thou that the understandynge is the chyef of the governaunce of man & helth of the soule, keper of vertues, & of vyces. For in the says understandynge we beholde the thynges that be to be chosen. It is the key of vertues, & the rote of all laudable goodes. And the best instrument therof is to have good fame. And yf it be contraryly done, it shalbe confounded at the last by yll fame. A kynge ought pryncypally seke to have a good fame. More for the governynge of his reame than for hymselfe.
